MUSICA VOCALE AND THE EAST NETHERLANDS CHAMBER CHOIR
The 70-strong choir has been formed by two top chamber choirs from Gelderland province: Musica Vocale (based in Wageningen) and the East Netherlands Chamber Choir (based in Doetinchem). Both choirs have been directed by Rob Vermeulen since the early 1990s. In terms of choral sound, the two choirs complement each other extremely well, and so when they collaborate, 1 plus 1 is always more than 2. Previous very successful collaborations have been Bach’s St Matthew Passion, Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir, Bruckner’s Mass in E minor and, in 2009, together with the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. Both choirs have performed Alfred Schnittke’s Choir Concerto previously (in the Netherlands and Germany).
